Documents & Labs

Upload lab reports and clinical files to a patient, or import them from your connected EHR.

The Documents tab on a patient's chart holds their lab reports, referral letters and other clinical files. Meelio reads each one as it arrives, so the assistant can work from it in chat.

As the empty state puts it: lab reports, referrals and other files you upload or import from your EHR are read and filed here.

Uploading a File

  1. Open the patient's chart and select the Documents tab.
  2. Click Upload.
  3. Drop a file onto the dialog, or click to browse.
  4. Click Upload & Analyze.

Accepted formats are PDF, JPEG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC, up to 50 MB per file.

Title and Category

Both are optional and both are filled in for you if you leave them blank — the title is generated from the document's contents, and the category is detected automatically.

Set them yourself if you want to override that. The categories are:

  • Lab Report
  • Referral Letter
  • Medical History
  • Dietary Log
  • Imaging
  • Other

What Happens Next

After the upload finishes, Meelio works through three stages and shows you where it is:

  1. Extracting text — Reading the file, including scanned pages and photos.
  2. Analyzing document — Working out what the document is and pulling out the clinical detail.
  3. Saving results — Filing it on the patient's chart.

You will see Document analyzed successfully when it is done. You do not have to wait with the dialog open — if the connection drops, Meelio tells you to check the documents list for the status, and processing continues.

Each row in the list shows a status: Pending, Processing, Completed, or Failed. Click a row to open the document and read what Meelio extracted from it.

Importing from Your EHR

If the patient has a chart in a connected EHR, an Import from EHR button appears next to Upload. See Connect Your EHR if you have not set one up.

Note: The button only appears when this patient has a chart in the EHR. A patient created manually in Meelio has no EHR record to import from.

Clicking it opens the Import from EHR dialog.

Pick Documents

Browse the documents on the patient's EHR chart, search by name, and tick the ones you want. Click Load More to page through a long list, then click Import to bring your selection across. Imported documents are read and analysed exactly like uploaded ones, and their rows are marked From EHR.

Sync All

For patients with a Cerbo chart, a Sync all tab lets you bring across everything at once rather than picking file by file. Choose which folders to include and, optionally, a date range, then click Start sync.

A bulk sync runs in the background and you will be notified when it completes. Only one sync can run at a time — while one is going, the import button is unavailable and tells you a sync is already running.

Using Documents in Chat

Once a document reaches Completed, the assistant can work with it in any conversation that has this patient's context loaded. You do not need to attach or paste it — ask about it directly:

  • "Summarise the GI-MAP that just came in."
  • "Compare these thyroid results to the panel from March."
  • "What in this bloodwork is outside functional range?"

This is also how the published review Skills are designed to work: upload the lab report, open the patient's chat, then type / and pick the matching skill. The skill instructs the assistant to pull the report, the patient's history and their medications itself.

  • Health Records — Conditions, medications, allergies and lab values on the chart
  • Patient Detail — The rest of the patient chart
  • Skills — Saved review procedures that read these documents
