Skills
Write a clinical procedure once, then have the assistant follow it every time.
A skill is a procedure you write down once — then load into any chat when you want the assistant to follow it. Instead of re-explaining how you read a GI-MAP, or what belongs in your intake write-up, at the start of every conversation, you save those steps once and reuse them.
Skills describe steps, never patients. The skill is your method; the patient's chart is what the assistant applies it to.
What Skills Are Good For
- Consistency — Every panel gets read in the same order, by the same rules, on every patient.
- Depth — A skill can be far longer than anything you would retype into a chat. Up to 50,000 characters of instructions.
- Delegation — Share a procedure with your practice and a colleague follows your protocol without you in the room.
- Onboarding — A new practitioner inherits your method instead of reconstructing it.
What Skills Are Not
Skills change how the assistant works, not when it works. A skill does not run on a schedule, fire on an event, or work in the background. It takes effect when you load it into a conversation, or when the assistant recognises that one of your skills matches what you just asked for.
Skills also cannot run code, fetch a web page, or bundle extra files. They are instructions — the assistant carries them out using the tools it already has, such as reading the patient's chart, searching their documents, and drafting notes.
Skills, Templates and Custom Prompts
Meelio gives you three ways to shape what the assistant produces, and they stack:

A template decides what the finished note looks like. A custom prompt sets your house style. A skill describes how to work through a particular job.
Getting Started
You can write your own skill from scratch, or install a ready-made one from the Meelio skill library.
- Open Settings → Skills.
- Click New skill, or install one from the skill library.
- In any chat, click the Skills button — or type
/at the start of your message — and pick it.
Your skills are private to you unless you choose to share them with your practice.
